Louisiana State Route 8 (LA 8) was one of the 98 original state highways that were established in 1924. It ran in a south to north direction for 35.90 miles (57.78 km), spanning from Shreveport through Oil City to turn into TX 77 at the state line. It was designated in the post-1955 system as Louisiana Highway 1.

From the south, LA 8 began at an intersection with LA 55, running northwest to small communities such as Blanchard and Oil City, eventually terminating at the northwestern corner of Caddo Parish, turning into TX 77. LA 8 passed through small communities, but encountered no major cities.
