Camping los escullos


The Escullos is a locality belonging to the township of Níjar, in the province of Almería, Spain. It is located in inside the Natural Park of the Cape of Cat-Níjar. In the surroundings of the town we can find sceneries such as “La playa del Arco” anda “La cala del Embarcadero”. In 2008 the locality had 62 inhabitants.

During the kingship of Carlos III of Spain for the defense of the littoral, this fortress was built in 1764 with common halls, chapel and headquarters surrounding a courtyard. It cost 201.000 real of vellón. This castle was disarmed by the French army during the Spanish Independence War. Halfway into the XIX century it was occupied by the pocial forces in charge of the surveillance of the littoral. During the XX century was abandoned and repaired between 1990-1991.
