Lorea canales los perros and the peril of mexican journalists


Lorea Canales (Mexico City Mexico) is a lawyer, journalist, translator and writer. An accomplished novelist, her books, including Apenas Marta and Los Perros, have been critically well-received and featured at the International Book Fair in Monterrey, Guadalajara and at the Instituto de Cervantes in New York[9]. Apenas Marta (Becoming Marta) will be released in the U.S. in early 2016.

Biography

Lorea Canales is a lawyer, journalist, translator, and critically acclaimed novelist. Born in Mexico City and raised in Monterrey, she is one of the first Mexican women admitted to Georgetown Law.

Canales worked in antitrust and electoral law in Washington, DC, and Mexico before joining the newspaper Reforma as a legal correspondent. Since then, she has taught law at Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México, edited for the New York Times Syndicate in its Spanish news service, and worked for Felipe Calderón's presidential campaign in Mexico.

In 2010, Canales received a master's in creative writing from New York University. She published her novel Apenas Marta (Becoming Marta) in 2011 and Los Perros (The Dogs) in 2013. Canales currently lives in New York.

Career

After her studies in at Georgetown University. Lorea Canales worked in the Law Offices of Collier Shannon Rill & Scott in Washington D.C.. In 1997 she moved to Mexico City, where she worked as a lawyer, a law professor at ITAM, and as a journalist for the Mexican newspaper "Reforma". In 2000 she moved to New York, where she wrote for various publications and newspapers. In 2011 she published her first novel, Apenas Marta. and in 2013 she published her second novel, Los Perros.

Novels

  1. Apenas Marta: A novel that exposes the tensions and insecurities of five women in contemporary Mexico.
  2. Los Perros: Classic theme of two opposing brothers and life in jail in modern Mexico. Exposing the violence of organized crime through family history and tragedy, Los Perros focuses on the extreme violence that results from everyday situations, e.g., segregation, insecurity and hopelessness. Lorea's experience as a lawyer and journalist helped her to acquire the information needed to write "Los Perros".

  1. Birth: a collection of poems where the delicacy of motherhood is displayed.
  2. Coccix: it is about the violente and consequences in Mexico.

Journalism

After her move to New York, she wrote for several newspapers such as "Día Siete", "Travesías" and "The New York Times". As part of her job, she researched Lorenzo Zambrano, CEO Cemex, for the book "Los amos de México", published in 2007.

Review

Lorea Canales is considered an author of global modern literature, often using the structure and components of the novel to expose a multi-faceted portrait about a particular situation and context. Similarly, it has been mentioned in several critical the credibility and logistics behind their characters since she exposes meticulous and real characters. She has been invited to expose and dialogue in several institutions such as Tecnológico de Monterrey and Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes. It is a recurrent lecturer about the status of women in different parts of the world and about education meetings.

Recognition

Her novels have been catalogued among the best publications in their respective first editions. They have been presented at literary nacional encounters such as the International book fair in Monterrey, Guadalajara and Instituto de Cervantes in New York
