Lopud ([lɔ̌pud]) is a small island 4.63 square kilometres (1.79 square miles) off the coast of Dalmatia, southern Croatia. Lopud is economically the most developed of the Elaphiti Islands, and can be reached by boat from Dubrovnik, Trsteno, Orasac and Zaton. The island is famous for its sandy beaches, in particular the bay of Šunj.Lopud is the second largest island of the Elaphiti islands,between Kolocep and Sipan. It is famous as the "island in the middle" (Insula Media, or Mezzo). History
On 22 July 1813, marines and seamen from HMS Saracen and HMS Weazel captured the French garrison on the island, which consisted of six guns and 59 men.
Thing To Do
There are many things to do on Lopud. There is a beautiful park 10-15 minutes away from the boat in which there are many amazing flowers and animals. If you like to walk, there is a pathway going around most of the Island. At the curve of the island, there is an amazing place where you can take breathtaking pictures of the sunset and the place itself. There are many sports you could do, for example: diving, kayaking, soccer,etc... If you like taking road trips, cars are not a part of the choice in this case (the Island has no cars, only small golf cars), instead, there are many boats that require a small amount of money that will take you around all the other islands called elafiti and show you all the other magnificent treasures of Croatia. On the island, there are many restaurants that serve traditional Croatian and food from dubrovnik. There are also many shops that sell traditional Croatian desserts.
