About the company

Longitude was founded in 2011 by Rob Mitchell and James Watson, both former managing editors at the Economist Intelligence Unit. Gareth Lofthouse, who was Editorial Director for EMEA at the EIU, joined Longitude as managing director at the beginning of 2013.

The company name was inspired by the Longitude Prize that was established by the British government in 1714, to encourage leading thinkers to devise an innovative method for precisely determining a ship's longitude. This reflects Longitude's mission statement, which is to help its clients become thought leaders in their given sectors.

Reports

The DNA of the CXO Between 2011 and 2013, Longitude wrote a series of in-depth studies in collaboration with EY assessing the changing role of C-suite executives - including the CFO, CIO and COO - that identified a number of emerging career trends among these leaders.

Oil and gas: Reinventing regulation In 2013, Longitude released a report in collaboration with GL Noble Denton assessing the impact of the US authorities' comprehensive oil and gas regulatory reforms - that followed in the wake of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill - on the sector. The study incorporated the views and experiences of more than 100 oil and gas industry executives.

Assessing regulatory stress in the financial services sector Longitude conducted a global survey of 400 financial services executives in collaboration with Sungard to deliver insight as to how the sector is coping with the stream of regulatory changes that have come into force since the financial crisis of 2007-08.
