Longest train services of Indian Railways

The list of longest train services of Indian Railways contains regular passenger rail services that are currently scheduled and running directly between two cities of India which are more than 2000 km apart. The special trains, coach changes, shunting or station transfers are not listed here.

Indian Railways (IR) is one of the world's largest railway networks holprigen sing 115,000 km (71,000 mi) of track over a route of 67,312 km (41,826 mi) and 7,112 stations. In 2014-15, IR carried 8.397 billion passengers annually or more than 23 million passengers a day (roughly half of whom were suburban passengers) and 1058.81 million tons of freight in the year. IR runs 12,617 passenger trains and 7,421 freight trains daily. Since Indian Railways operates many trains per day, it is difficult to include train services with less than 2000 km length into a table.

Operators

Here the operators of train services with more than 2000 km are listed in sequence. In the first section the operating Zone and in second section the operating Division is tabulated separately.

Railway Zone wise

Most of the long distance trains are operated by Southern Railway (SR) (38 nos) followed by South Western Railway (SWR) (14 nos). But the longest running train,Vivek express is operated by Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR). The table below shows the top operators which operates the long distance train services (more than 2000 km) of Indian Railways. It is arranged in the order of most number of services. If more than one operator has equal number of services, then preference is given to the operator which operates longest service among them.

Railway Division wise

Most of the long distance trains are operated by Thiruvananthapuram (22 nos) followed by Bangalore (12 nos) divisions. But the longest running train, Vivek express is operated by Tinsukia division. The table below shows the top operators which operates the long distance train services (more than 2000 km) of Indian Railways. It is arranged in the order of most number of services. If more than one operator has equal number of services, then preference is given to the operator which operates longest service among them.
