The long-winged tomb bat (Taphozous longimanus) is a species of sac-winged bat in the family Emballonuridae. It is found in Bangladesh, Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, and Thailand.

Description

Head and body length 7-9cm. Forearm is 6cm. Wingspan 40cm.

Females are larger than males. Reddish brown pelage, slightly paler below. Juveniles gray colored. Wing narrow and dark brown in color. Wing pocket present. Ears stand straight. Tail tip is free. Fur short, dense, and soft. Males have well developed gular sacs. Whereas in females, this area is a fold of skin. Has a strong and unpleasant odour.

Culture

Known as දික්-බා කෙපුලුම් වවුලා in Sinhala.
