Background
This area is a place where the early immigrants and merchants from India congregated did their thriving business at a time when tin emerged as an important industry in the Kinta Valley. The majority of them were Nattukkotai Chettiar from South India. The population in the area soon grew to 65% Indian and 35% Chinese.
