List of twin towns and sister cities in Germany

This is a list of places in Germany which have standing links to local communities in other countries, or in other parts of Germany (mostly across the former inner German border). In most cases, the association, especially when formalised by local government, is known as "town twinning" (though other terms, such as "partner towns" or "sister cities" are sometimes used instead), and while most of the places included are towns, the list also comprises villages, cities, districts, counties, etc. with similar links.

Contents

A few twin places have a historical German name, especially in bordering countries or areas with mixed languages.

For German-German twins there are abbreviated state names: Baden-Württemberg (BW), Bavaria (BA), Berlin (BE), Brandenburg (BB), Bremen (BN), Hamburg (HB), Hesse (HE), Lower Saxony (LS), Mecklenburg-Vorpommern (MV), North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW), Rhineland-Palatinate (RP), Saarland (SL), Saxony-Anhalt (SA), Saxony (SX), Schleswig-Holstein (SH) and Thuringia (TH).
