On December 16, 2016, "One Dance" by Drake featuring WizKid and Kyla exceeded 1 billion streams, becoming the first and, as of March 2017, the only song to reach the mark. One factor for the streaming popularity of "One Dance" may be its lack of a music video, pushing listeners to streaming services rather than free platforms such as YouTube.
Prior to February 2014, Spotify's most streamed song was "Radioactive" by Imagine Dragons; it was overtaken by Avicii's "Wake Me Up", featuring Aloe Blacc, which became the first song to hit 200 million streams on February 27, 2014. "Wake Me Up" held the streaming record for over a year before being surpassed on May 22, 2015 by Ed Sheeran's "Thinking Out Loud", which became the first song to hit 500 million streams on October 12, 2015. A month later, however, it was surpassed by Major Lazer and DJ Snake's "Lean On", featuring MØ, which held the streaming record for 11 months until "One Dance" overtook it on October 15, 2016.
