In Bihar there are seventeen state universities (Patliputra University,Bihar Animal Science University & Purnea university opened in 2016), nine (seven working and two proposed) central universities, two deemed universities, and five private university proposed.
Since 2005 Bihar has experienced many reforms. Many world-class institutions are developing in the state. Nalanda University and the proposed Vikramshila University will attract students from across the globe. To improve skill development, the central government has decided to build India's first national skill development university in Bihar. Bihar's government has also given its consent to open five private universities.
