List of active Indonesian Navy ships

All the Indonesian Navy Vessels are named with the KRI Initial. KRI (Kapal Perang Republik Indonesia) means Navy Vessel Of The Republic Of Indonesia. The class are often named after the lead ships.

The navy includes Frigates, Corvettes, Submarines, Fast Attack Craft, Minesweepers, Landing Transport Ships, Support Vessels and Training Ships.

Ahmad Yani-class frigates

The Van Speijk class frigate were built for the Royal Netherlands Navy in the 1960s. They were versions of the British Leander class frigates with Dutch radars. The British design was chosen in order to enable rapid construction in order to replace elderly destroyer escorts and take up part of the NATO patrol duties of the decommissioned anti-submarine warfare carrier Karel Doorman. The ships were modernised in the late 1970s. All six ships were sold to the Indonesian Navy in 1986-89 and are still in service (as of 2016) as the Ahmad Yani class frigates. Indonesian navy planned to retire all of Ahmad Yani class in 2022 and replace it with newer frigate. 2 of this ship were confirmed will be replace by Sigma 10514 or PKR105 (Martadinata class) in Indonesian. Armed with: 1 x OTO-Melara 76mm, 2 x twin Simbad SAM (4 missiles), 4 x C-802 SSM or 4 x Yakhnot SS-N-26 SSM in VLS, 2 x triple Mk 32 torpedo launchers.

Martadinata-class frigate

Indonesia has ordered 2 Sigma 10514 class, these ships will be built by the Indonesian shipyard PT PAL with the first ship KRI 331 Raden Eddy Martadinata was laid down in January 2014 and as of January 2016 the first ship is almost complete. On 18 January 2016 the ship was launched and is scheduled to be delivered to the Indonesian Navy in January 2017. The second ship, KRI 332 I Gusti Ngurah Rai, is under construction by PT PAL and the modules for the ship arrived in Surabaya in January 2016. Total 6 ships planned. The Martadinata-class armed with: 1 x OTO Melara 76 mm, 1 x Rheinmetall Millennium 35 mm CIWS Gun, 12 x VLS MICA SAM, 8 x Exocet MM40 Block III SSM, 2 x triple torpedo tubes.

Diponegoro-class corvette

The Diponegoro class is the Indonesian variant of the SIGMA class ocean-going frigate/corvette design. It uses a modular hull construction where the order and number of hull segments can vary from class to class. This class armed with: 1 x Oto Melara 76 mm, 2 x 20 mm Denel Vektor G12, 2 x quad MBDA Mistral TETRAL SAM (8 missiles), 4 x Exocet MM 40 Block 2 SSM, 2 x triple B515 launchers.

Bung Tomo-class corvette

The Bung Tomo class is a class of three Indonesian multi role corvettes. They were originally built for the Royal Brunei Navy and named Nakhoda Ragam-class corvettes but were ultimately bought by Indonesia and renamed. The class is named after Bung Tomo, a noted leader of Indonesia's independence movement. This class armed with: 1 x Oto Melara 76 mm, 2 x DS 30B REMSIG 30mm guns, 16 x MBDA Seawolf, 8 x Exocet MM40 Block II SSM, and 2 x triple BAE Systems 324mm torpedo tubes.

Fatahillah-class corvette

Two ships from this class, KRI Fatahillah and KRI Nala are involved in an operation to search and found Adam Air Flight 574. This class armed with: 1 x Bofors 120mm, 1 x Bofors 40mm, 4 x Exocet MM 38 SSM, 1 x Limbo anti-submarine mortars, 2 x triple torpedo launcher.

Kapitan Pattimura-class corvette


Originally, 16 ships in active service. In 2008, KRI Memet Sastrawiria was heavily damaged because of fire and later decommissioned. In June 2016, KRI Pati Unus had an accident and must undergo major refit. Recently, only 14 ships remaining that still in active service under Indonesian Navy command. The armament of the Kapitan Pattimura-class are 1x twin 57 mm gun AK-725, 1x twin 30 mm gun AK-230, 2x RBU-6000, 2x SA-N-5 MANPAD SAM, 4x 400 mm torpedo tubes/2x triple torpedo launcher, and 12 depth charges.

Cakra-class

The Type 209 is a class of diesel-electric attack submarine developed exclusively for export by Howaldtswerke-Deutsche Werft of Germany. The original variant (Type 209/1100) was designed in the late 1960s. Despite not being operated by the German Navy, five variants of the class (209/1100, 209/1200, 209/1300, 209/1400 and 209/1500) have been successfully exported to 13 countries, with 61 submarines being built and commissioned between 1971 and 2008.

Changbogo class

The Chang Bogo-class submarine (Hangul: 장보고급 잠수함, Hanja: 張保皐級潛水艦) is a variant of the Type 209 diesel-electric attack submarine initially developed by Howaldtswerke-Deutsche Werft (HDW) of Germany, intended for service with the South Korean Navy and Indonesian Navy. A Daewoo (DSME)-upgraded model of the Chang Bogo class Type 209 is being independently exported by Korea to Indonesia in 2012, after a series of heavy competitions from Russian, French, and German-Turkish consortiums including from Germany's original Type 209.

Fast Missile Boat

Fast Missile Boat (FMB) or in Indonesian Kapal Cepat Rudal (KCR) are small vessel that used in hit-and-run naval strategy.

    The ship list below only mentioned the ship that are considered as KRI or Indonesian warship because its equipped with heavy and enough armament. Beside that, Indonesian navy also have numerous patrol boat that classified as KAL or Kapal Angkatan Laut or Indonesian Navy Ship. This type of ship usually use as secondary fleet to maintain the law of Indonesian coastal sea.

    Indonesian Navy's Rigel-class are considered as one of the most advanced oceanographic and research vessel because of its equipment and technology.

    Fleet Tugs (ATF)

    KRI Rakata (922, ex-USS Menominee), an ocean tugboat was decommissioned in 2003. The ship later sunk as missiles and torpedoes target during an exercise in 2004. The ship received multiple direct hit from anti-ship missile and SUT Torpedo.

    KRI Karang Banteng (983) and KRI Karang Galang (984) were decommissioned in 2014 and 2008. Both of this ships were retired to reduce the operational cost of the Indonesian Navy. KRI Karang Banteng sunk in 2014 after used as target ship for 2 Exocet missiles and 2 C-802 Missiles. KRI Karang Galang sunk in 2008 after used as target ship for C-802 missile.

    KRI Karang Unarang (985) was transferred to Sangihe region to serve as commercial ship.

    KPLP / Indonesian Sea and Coast Guard

    Indonesian Sea and Coast Guard or Kesatuan Penjaga Laut dan Pantai (KPLP) is a semi-military unit that established to control Indonesia sailing safety. KPLP is the first Indonesian Coast Guard and separated from BAKAMLA. Technically, Indonesia have two different coast guard to maintain its territorial. KPLP is directly under Indonesian Ministry of Transportation command. BAKAMLA is under president command.

    KPLP also have hundreds of class 3 until 5 ship. These ship have smaller size than class 1 or 2.

    Future Fleet

    In the next 5 years or until 2019. KPLP are planning to acquire at least 500 patrol vessel from different size to strengthen its patrol fleet.

    BAKAMLA / Indonesian Coast Guard

    The Indonesia Coast Guard or Badan Keamanan Laut Republik Indonesia (BAKAMLA, literally means Maritime Security Board) is a maritime patrol and rescue on the Republic of Indonesia territorial water.

    48 meters ship

    Series 48 ship. All were built by Indonesian ship company and if necessary, all of these ship can be modified to equipped with anti-ship missile.

    Future Fleet

  • Destroyers

    Indonesia has no plan to acquire destroyer anytime soon but some sources reported that in the Indo Defence 2016, South Korea try to offered its KDX III or Sejong the Great class destroyer to Indonesian Navy. There's no further information about this report, both Indonesia and South Korea denied this information.

    Frigates

    Indonesian Navy want to acquired at least 2 (two) additional frigate to replace current Van speijk-class frigate. There's a plan to open a tender in 2017 to choose the class of the frigate they want.

    Landing Platform Dock

    Some sources said that Indonesian Navy already signed a contract worth of IDR 700 billion to build 1 (one) additional Landing Platform Dock to strengthen its amphibious fleet. The ship will be built at PT PAL. However, the government still refuse to make public announcement about this news. Kolinlamil reported that Indonesian Navy will order at least 3 additional LPD to reaching MEF in 2024.

    Fast Missile Boat

    In the early 2017, Indonesian Navy has ordered 1 FMB-60 / KCR-60 worth of IDR 220 Billion with the consideration to buy 3 more vessel in the same class. For fulfill the MEF project, Indonesian Navy hope to receive at least 35 unit FMB-60 / KCR-60 vessel by 2024.

    Patrol Vessel

    In 2017, Indonesian Navy will held an open tender to buy at least 2 (two) Offshore Patrol Vessels or OPV to strengthen its fleet.

    LST

    Kolinlamil said that Indonesian Navy will procure at least 6 new LST to replace the older vessel and strengthen the capability of the Indonesian Navy in real battle.

    Minesweeper

    Indonesian Navy has allocated $215 million to replace its 2 (two) Tripartite class minesweepers.

    Submarines

    20 December 2011, the Indonesian Defense Ministry and Daewoo Shipbuilding Marine Engineering (DSME) signed the contract 3 submarines worth $1.07b. two submarines will be built in South Korea in cooperation with state-owned shipbuilder PT PAL, while the third submarine will be built at PT PAL’s facilities in Surabaya. Deliveries will be in 2015 and 2016. The submarines are to satisfy a partial requirement of as the 2024 Defense Strategic Plan 10 to 14 submarines as the minimum essential force. Some report said that 3 more submarine will be ordered by Indonesian Navy soon.
