GSM Operators

  • AirTel: AirTel is Shimoga's number 1 network. It has a wide coverage in Shimoga district. Its presence is even in the remotest villages of Shimoga also.
  • BSNL: BSNL, the state-owned operator is also having a large user base in rural Shimoga. It has good coverage all over Shimoga district.
  • Vodafone: Vodafone essar owned Vodafone is one of the best providers in Karnataka. Vodafone has a good user base in urban regions.
  • Idea: Idea, previously Spice Telecom. A small carrier provider which is trying to expand its reach in Karnataka. Idea numbers start with '9743', '9844', '9964'.
  • Reliance GSM: Reliance launched its GSM services in January 2009. It has a 3G ready network. Reliance GSM numbers start with '9019'.
  • Tata DoCoMo: Tata launched its GSM services called TATA DOCOMO. It is the latest entrant to the state. TATA DOCOMO numbers start with '9036', '9035', '8050'.

    • CDMA Operators

  • Reliance Infocomm: Reliance Infocomm is one of the largest mobile operators in India. It has a huge user base and extends to small towns. Operations started in 2003. Numbers start with '93'.
  • Tata Indicom: Tata Indicom, like Reliance also offers CDMA connections. Tata now has operations on a national scale. Numbers start with '92'.
  • MTS: Karnataka gets its third CDMA Operator called MTS. MTS launched its CDMA services in Karnataka on October 29, 2009. MTS numbers start with '9141'.
