History

The first sketch of "El Chavo del Ocho" was broadcast on 20 June 1971, after Rubén Aguirre, who played "Profesor Jirafales" in El Chavo from 1973 onwards, had left the program "Los Supergenios" to host a show in another TV channel. With the departure of Rubén Aguirre, one of the sketches named "Los Chifladitos" would end, with "El Chavo del Ocho" taking its place.

The sketch "El Ropavejero" is one of the earliest sketches of El Chavo, but it is not the first. There is a rumor that El Chavo del Ocho's first sketch featured El Chavo, La Chilindrina and Don Ramón (like in "El Ropavejero"), but Don Ramón was a Balloon Vendor. Then, this sketch could be a "prehistoric" version of the episode "El Vendedor de Globos" of 1975 and 1977.

The 1971–72 sketches were only known by the public because of an accident Chespirito suffered in early 1973; this accident kept Chespirito from filming new episodes for the 1973 season. Since new episodes could not be made, the 1971–72 sketches of El Chavo and other characters were compiled into 30-minute-long "episodes", lasting for 7 episodes, with a total of 11 "non-canon" sketches of El Chavo. Other sketches from 1972 were discovered recently, through photos, fragments of the sketches broadcast in specials or by reading the old editions of the Tele Guía, the Mexican version of TV Guide. Those episodes which were not compiled are lost, with the chances of appearing at any time being very small.

The oldest known sketch is "El Ropavejero" (The Used Clothes Vendor), which marked the first appearance of El Chavo, La Chilindrina and Don Ramón; Quico appeared in "Adivinanzas", the second in the actual order of the 1972 season; Doña Florinda and Doña Cleotilde appeared in "La Fiesta de la Buena Vecindad"; Señor Barriga would appear in "Los Muebles de Don Ramón". It's unknown if the 11 sketches are in chronological order (with the exception of "El Ropavejero", which is clearly the oldest).

El Chavo del Ocho's last appearance in sketch form was probably broadcast in early 1973 (January or February), since the independent series premiered on 5 March 1973.

The beginning, the prototype El Chavo del Ocho, Season 1 (1971–1972, the sketches were retransmitted in the 1973 season)

The first season is considered as the origin of the majority of gags, gestures and personalities of the characters. Due to years, many episodes were missing, the episodes are Sketches from the Los Supergenios de la Mesa Cuadrada which ran from 1968 until 1973, a show similar to the Saturday Night Live. Like SNL, the Supergenios shows consisted of various sketches of characters created by Chespirito, El Chavo was created in 1971. The sketches of El Chavo are compiled with sketches of the other characters (Doctor Chapatín, Los Caquitos and Chespirito), they were compiled in early 1973 (just a few episodes after the start of the 30-minute El Chavo sticom) because of an accident of Chespirito that keep him away from the filming of new episodes for the El Chavo series for some days.

The information were mostly taken from Internet forums and fan sites of the series.

"Lost sketch" is not the right term to describe these sketches. What happened was that Televisa didn't compile these sketches in the 1973 season, since Chespirito already had recovered from his accident with his hand, which allowed him to make new episodes for the 30-minute El Chavo show, these sketches were only transmitted in the "Los Supergenios de la Mesa Cuadrada".

Rubén Aguirre, Professor Jirafales, first appears in the second episode (in the actual order) of the season "Pintor de Brocha Gorda - parte 2", he previously appeared in the last sketch of El Chavo in the "Chespirito" show, Aguirre had left the Los Supergenios de la Mesa Cuadrada in late 1971 or early 1972 to host a show in other channel.

The sketchs of the 1971-72 season were compiled in this season, after Chespirito suffered an accident and injured the hand just after few episodes.
