Lira University (LU), is a university in Uganda. It is one of the eleven public universities and degree-awarding institutions in the country.

Location
The university campus is located on approximately 500 acres (200 ha) of land, about 5 kilometres (3 mi), by road, southwest of downtown Lira along the Rwekunye–Apac–Aduku–Lira–Kitgum–Musingo Road.<ref name="Open"/> The coordinates of the university campus are 2°12'34.0"N, 32°52'12.0"E (Latitude:2.209434; Longitude:32.870011).<ref>Google (29 January 2016). History
The university first opened in August 2012 with 100 students.<ref name="Open"/> At that time the institution was a constituent college of Gulu University and was known as Gulu University Constituent College Lira.<ref name="CCL">GU (October 2012). In June 2015, the Uganda Ministry of Education elevated the college to university status, effective in the 2016/2017 academic year, which begins in August 2016.<ref name="LKS">Okello, Dickens (26 June 2015).
