Liophis reginae, commonly known as the high woods coral, is a species of colubrid snake endemic to northern South America.

Geographic range

It is found in Venezuela, Peru and Trinidad and Tobago.

Diet

It feeds on frogs, frog eggs, tadpoles, fish, small birds and lizards.

The following subspecies can be distinguished:

  • Liophis reginae macrosoma (Amaral, 1936)
  • Liophis reginae reginae (Linnaeus, 1758)
  • Liophis reginae semilineatus (Wagler, 1824)
  • Liophis reginae zweifeli (Roze, 1959)
  • The subspecific name, zweifeli, is in honor of American herpetologist Richard G. Zweifel.
