Lindsey Cousins (previously Stanlow, Phelan, Corkhill and Grant) is a character in Channel 4 soap opera Brookside. She was played by Claire Sweeney from 1991 to 2001 and then again in 2003. On 15 January 2013, Lindsey is reintroduced for the show's reintroduction. She returns with Barry, daughter Kylie and her son Jimmy. When Lindsey Corkhill first came into Brookside, her husband Gary was originally played by Daniel McNamara, but was uncredited. And appeared in several episodes in 1991. In 1992 McNamara was replaced by Andrew Fillis.

Character
Lindsey Corkhill, like her brother Little Jimmy brought a lot of trouble and anguish to her dysfunctional parents Jimmy and Jackie. As the character develops she becomes involved in a circle of organised crime.
Drug smuggling
In 1996 Lindsey had an affair with Mike Dixon. In revenge for this her husband Gary Stanlow plants drugs in daughter Kylie's teddy bear before the two head for Australia. The two are arrested en route in Bangkok. At the time Lindsey's father Jimmy and Mike's father Ron had been enemies after Jimmy had accidentally killed Ron's son Tony. The two however fought a campaign to free their respective children, first releasing Lindsey and later Mike.
Split with Mike
Later in 1997, Mike Dixon decides to publish a book about his experience in Bangkok. In failing to credit Lindsey she decides to break with him.
Marriage to Peter Phelan and affair with Barry Grant
After her break with Mike, Lindsey becomes engaged to Peter Phelan. Soon after however she has an affair with Barry Grant. The two do however marry in spin-off Brookside: Friday the 13th but only after her and father Jimmy are pursued by two armed gangsters intent on killing Jimmy. The marriage did not last long and Peter moved away from the close. Lindsey and Peter divorced not long after.
Harassment from ex-husband Gary Stanlow
In 1998 Gary turns up again and demands a divorce settlement and access to daughter Kylie. Intent on getting these he harasses Lindsey until she threatens him with a gun. Gary backs down and the two divorce on Lindsey's terms, leaving her free to marry Peter.
Return to the close and marriage to Barry Grant
Lindsey Corkhill returned along with Barry Grant in 2003 for the final episode. Lindsey persuades her father to come and live with her in a house in the grounds of Barry's mansion in Blaydon, Tyne and Wear. Jimmy gives Lindsey his blessing and eventually moves to Newcastle to live with Lindsey and Barry. Lindsey and Barry marry off screen in 2003.
2013 return
Lindsey Grant returned to Brookside on the show's reintroduction on 15 January 2013. Lindsey had resettled down in Brookside two years prior to the reintroduction. Lindsey son with Barry, Jimmy, is introduced. It was revealed that Jimmy had died shortly after she left Brookside in 2003. In March 2013, Barry sleeps with her best-friend Michelle Grainger (Camilla Power). After finding out Barry slept with Michelle, she slaps her and kicks Barry out. Lindsey continues to clash with Michelle. In order to make Barry jealous, Lindsey starts a relationship with Tim Carmichael but leaves him and reunites back with Barry. In October 2013, a man named Darren Appleton arrives and is looking for Lindsey and Barry. It is revealed that they conned him for money and fled to Brookside. Darren starts to blackmail them and holds them hostage. During this, Darren shoots Barry, killing him. Lindsey is devastated and leaves Brookside for Malta, after his funeral.
In February 2014, Lindsey returns after Lee Quinn meets her at a rehab center, where he is overcoming a cocaine addiction. It is revealed that Lindsey had been addicted to alcohol. She re-appears in April, when she tries to rob a man and ends up getting slapped. Lindsey is arrested and returns to Brookside. She decides to resettle and continues her work at Carmichael's. Lindsey starts a fling with Andy Cousins. Andy proposes and she accepts his proposal. On their wedding day, Lindsey is late for the wedding as she was visiting Barry's grave. Andy assumes that Lindsey is having cold-feet but she arrives and they get married. They leave for Chicago. The marriage is rosy for a couple of months until Lindsey does not want kids. And has a one-night stand with Sarah Wise, which leads to her pregnancy. Andy starts acting suspicious and Lindsey discovers the truth. As revenge, Lindsey claims that she is pregnant and plans to flee with his money. This fails and Andy divorces Lindsey.
In March 2015, Lindsey's aunt Val arrives in Brookside. She is ill and needs Lindsey's care. When Val dies, Lindsey discovers that Val has left her her estate, making Lindsey a millionaire. Lindsey buys Gaz nightclub from Gary Booth and renames it Lindsey's Cross. She creates a fitness center calling it Linenergy. Lindsey starts to evict people of their property. Lindsey has an affair with Gary but refuses to leave with him for France. Lindsey starts dating Paul Macer. He is then accidentally killed by the villages enemy, Carl Evans. Michelle helps her husband go into hiding and Lindsey fights her. Carl remains hiding at Michelle's secret attic. Lindsey vows revenge on Carl. Michelle later discovers Carl laying dead. There are numerous suspects and it is revealed to be Lindsey who killed him. An investigation into Carl's murder leaves Lindsey arrested as the prime victim. When she plans to flee, she is arrested. In November 2015, Lindsey is found not guilty for murder and released.
Gary Stanlow returns to Brookside in April 2016, in which he reveals that she is suffering from a kidney disease and wants to make amends with both Lindsey and Kylie. Gary tells his family that he broken up with his wife Michelle. Lindsey gives Gary money to leave Brookside but he refuses and continues his relationship with Kylie. Gary reveals that he needs a new kidney and Kylie volunteers to donate. They are a match and Kylie gives Gary her kidney, despite the feud between Gary and Lindsey. However, Gary and Lindsey kiss and start a relationship. Gary later leaves weeks after, with his wife Michelle revealing that he was only after Kylie's kidney.
In January 2017, Lindsey develops a lump on her armpit. She then books an appointment to the doctors and discovers that she has breast cancer. Lindsey discovers that she carries a cancer gene.
