Biography
Dorrier was born on August 27, 1943 in Scottsville, Virginia. His mother was a teacher at Belfield School and his father ran the local Ford dealership, Bruce-Dorrier Motor Company. Dorrier was raised in Scottsville, attended public schools, graduated from St. Christopher’s School and Trinity College. He enlisted in the United States Army, graduated from the Infantry Officer Candidate School and served in Japan in Military Intelligence.
Dorrier returned home to attend University of Virginia Law School and pursued his career as a lawyer and elected official. He has been a U.S. Army Reserve Judge Advocate General's Corps Officer for fifteen years. In 1982, he unsuccessfully ran for the U.S. House of Representatives in the 7th District. He previously served as a member of the Board of Supervisors from 1976 to 1980 before being elected as Commonwealth's Attorney for Albemarle County that year. In 1990, he was appointed to serve as Director of the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services, a post he served in until 1994.
In 1999, he ran against Terry Hawkins for his old seat on the Board of Supervisors, a seat he won and has held since. He has represented Albemarle County on the Rivanna River Basin Commission.
Dorrier is married to Jane Ikenberry Dorrier and has a daughter and son. He has announced he will not seek another term on the Board, citing his battle with Parkinson's Disease as one of the reasons.
