Linda Joy Stern, née Hart (21 December 1941, in London – 10 September 2006, in London) was an English judge.

Family and Education

Her father was Lionel Hart, brother of Sidney Hart; he worked as a scientist during World War 2 and died in a laboratory incident; sabotage was suspected. Her mother was Lily Rachel Gold. She was educated at St. Paul's Girls' School.

She married first (1961) Michael Brian Rose (died 1976) and had two sons; in 1978 she married Nigel Maurice Stern.

Career

She was called to the Bar at Gray's Inn in 1971. She was a recorder of the Crown Court 1990-2001 and was a circuit judge, 2001-6. She was appointed a QC in 1991. Probably her best-known case was as prosecutor in the Anna Climbie murder trial.

She was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts in 1993.
