History

Opening in 2010, the school initially began with grades K-8 but by 2011, Grade 9 was officially established for the eighth grade students of the previous year. By 2012, Light of Christ became the designated Jr high school for Our Lady of Fatima Elementary school students due to St. Rose of Lima Jr. High becoming a French immersion school.OLOF students at LOC were also given the option of transferring to St. ROL for Grade 8-9 for the regular English program.

In 2014, the designated Jr high for Our Lady of Fatima students was changed from Light of Christ to St. John XXIII due to limited space. As of 2016, the classes for OLOF to attend junior high is now considered optional among the original schools accommodations, therefore, classes will undergo a smaller portion of what once was back in 2013, and that OLOF students now have the option of the original mandatory school, St. Rose of Lima.

Rooms and Classes

The school has over 20 classrooms, and features work rooms, a workshop, art room, music room, auxiliary gym, gym, office, infirmary, lounge, cooking/fashion classroom, and the replacement of the library into the Learning Commons area. The school has a second floor mostly for Junior High classes and extra storage use. There also have been a more common share of expanding grades by using conjoint classes, notably for grades fives and sixes grade twos and ones, fives and fours, thress and fours and the grade threes and twos.

The number of classrooms per grade varies yearly with the intake of new students. Below is a list of the grades that have been expanded or contracted:

Jr. High Options & Intramural and Extracurricular Activities

The Jr. high students from Grade 7-9 have options and extracurricular activities for enjoyment and preparation for High School. The following list of options are:

Due to the school's large intake of Jr high students in 2013, the amount of options have also increased; however, this required the cancellation of Drama. Within one year as students were preferably not as a popular choice. However, in 2015, Drama continued but rather as a extra circular thing and as a part of elementary students for their own purposes. With the Jr high population lowering in 2016, numerous teachers relocated or transfer to different schools which lead to options having been reverted back to the original three options of Band, now called Instrumental Music, Recreational Leadership, and Art. It is noted that Sports Performance has been renamed to Recreational Leadership with several differences in the curriculum and a higher emphasis on leadership and coaching skills .

Students are given the choice to sign up for various athletic teams or extracurricular clubs throughout the school year.Below is a list of some that have been offered in previous years:

A large part of school pride is being well-represented in athletics, having been well-decorated in everything from badminton to the Spirit Award for Track and Field in 2013. Team tryouts for a variety of sports occur at different points throughout the school year. Teams last for a season rather than all year due to the numerous commitments students are expected to make to both the team and their schoolwork. Here is the list:

Sports such as Volleyball, Basketball, and Badminton have teams divided for girls and boys, seniors and juniors. Cross Country Running is an athletic that requires students to be able to achieve a certain distance within a time limit to be accepted to the team. For the Track or running portion of Track and Field, students are selected using the aforementioned method whereas the Field portion is an all inclusive team sport.

Designated High School

During their second semester, Grade 9 students choose their high school for the upcoming year. Mainly done during their Health classes, they are exposed to the life of High School, planning for it, choosing their courses for Grade ten, and as well getting a feel for their upcoming new school. A large majority of students will attend the designated high school Bishop McNally High School or to certain schools offering various programs of study(recommended of Father Lacombe or Bishop Carroll. In the near future, as the Calgary Catholic School District continues to expand in their new schools in new communities in Calgary, there could be a possibility that a new high school could always be in the works, as the CCSD have been funding and planning more schools by late 2016, as of February 2017, there still hasn't been a new announcement.
