Lifen Zhang (born in 1962) is a British Chinese journalist, academic, author and broadcaster.

Biography

Dr Lifen Zhang, professor at the School of Journalism, Fudan University, Shanghai.

He also acts as chief advisor for the China Business Network (CBN), China's largest and most diverse business media group in China.

Since 2004 he was the founding editor of FTChinese.com, the FT's award-winning Chinese language business web publication and FT's associate editor.

Prior to joining the FT he was with the BBC for more than 10 years, as assistant producer for BBC TV, producer, senior producer, senior trainer in journalism and production and news and current affairs editor at the BBC World Service.

He obtained his BA degree in journalism at Fudan University and stayed on as a research-teaching assistant. As the recipient of the prestigious SBFSS scholarship (Sino-British Friendship Scholarship Scheme), he got his PhD in Communications at University of Leicester.

He has been visiting professors at the National Chengchi University in Taipei, the Baptist University in HK, University of Hong Kong in Hong Kong, Fudan University in Shanghai.

In 2017 He was with the Said Business School at Oxford University as a visiting scholar and stays at the New College for the Trinity term.

He received various awards including SOPA journalism awards, BBC Onnasis Bursary, The State Street Award for Outstanding Contributions in Institutional Journalism.

As a media leader, he has been also a regular moderator and speaker at the World Economic Forum and Boao Forum for Asia.

As a photographer he held two solo photo journalism exhibition so far, one on Tibet and most recent one entitled “Shanghai: Last Day in 2016.

In early 2010, Lifen is visiting professor at Dept of Journalism, Hong Kong Baptist University.

He was on the Executive Committee of the Great Britain-China Centre (GBCC) based in London.
