On April 21, 2016 South Korean prosecutors announced that they were charging Life, along with Bbyong, with matchfixing. He was convicted and sentenced to eighteen months in prison, suspended for three years, and fined 70,000,000 South Korean won. His WCS Championship was also stripped from him by Blizzard Entertainment, the publisher of Starcraft. ESPN named his match fixing the most disappointing event in ESports in 2016.
