Biography

Gavrilov has an MSc in chemistry (1976) and a PhD in genetics (1980), both from Moscow State University. His book The Biology of Life Span: A Quantitative Approach was published in Russian in 1986 and in English translation in 1991. In 1998 he and his wife emigrated to the United States, where he received a grant from the National Institute on Aging to study the effects of parental age on lifespan. He taught a course on "biodemography of human mortality and longevity" at the University of Chicago.

Gavrilov is an associate editor of Experimental Gerontology and Theoretical Biology and Medical Modelling, and an editorial board member of Rejuvenation Research, Advanced Science Letters and The Scientific World Journal.
