Professor Leon Sterling is the former Pro Vice-Chancellor (Digital Frontiers) at Swinburne University of Technology in Melbourne. Professor Sterling was the inaugural holder of the position, intended to provide leadership for Information Technology across the university in research teaching, and IT innovation. His tenure ended in 2015. From January 2010 until December 2013, he was the Dean of the Faculty of Information and Communication Technologies at Swinburne.

From July 1995 until December 2009, Professor Sterling was a professor at the University of Melbourne's department of Computer Science and Software Engineering, holding a number of high positions including Head of Department.

Prior to his tenure at Melbourne University, Professor Sterling held positions at Universities in the USA, Israel and the United Kingdom.

Professor Sterling is the co-author, along with Ehud Shapiro, of the computer science textbook The Art of Prolog.
