Leo Freiherr von König (28 February 1871 – 19 April 1944) was a German painter and member of the Berlin Secession.

Von König was born in Braunschweig. His father was the General of the Cavalry Götz von König. In 1889, he began his studies at the Royal Academy of Arts at Berlin. From 1894 to 1897, he studied at the Académie Julian in Paris. In 1900, he returned to Berlin and joined the Berlin Secession.

Von König died in Tutzing, Bavaria in 1944.

Work

Von König was best known for his portraits. He painted, among others, portraits of Ernst Barlach, Gerhart Hauptmann, Emil Nolde, Käthe Kollwitz, Nazi politicians Bernhard Rust (1934) and Joseph Goebbels (1935), as well as a portrait of two of Goebbels' children.

He also represented Germany in one of the art competitions at the 1936 Summer Olympics.
