Pantai Dalam is a perfect watershed between two groups of urban Malays: the affluent and the working class. The former live mainly in gleaming, whitewashed condominiums like the Andalusia Condominium in Pantai Hillpark, or in luxury bungalows in Kampung Pantai and Pantai Halt.

Politics
The Member of Parliament for the Lembah Pantai parliamentary constituency is Nurul Izzah Anwar from Parti Keadilan Rakyat, who won the seat in the 2008 Malaysian general election from the incumbent Shahrizat Abdul Jalil representing the Barisan Nasional ruling coalition. Shahrizat had held the seat since 1995.
Tun Salleh Abbas, the former Lord President of the Federal Court had contested for the constituency seat in the 1995 Malaysian general election under the Semangat 46 ticket, and lost.
