Lega Nord Trentino (English: Trentino Northern League, LNT) is a regionalist political party in Italy which functions as the "national" (hence, provincial) section of Lega Nord in Trentino. The party's current national secretary is Maurizio Fugatti, a former deputy to the Italian Parliament. The party has a senator, Sergio Divina, and two provincial councillors.

History

It was founded by Elizabeth Bertotti in a garage box in Trento in 1990, by some Trentino autonomists who wanted to join Lega Nord, as the Trentino Tyrolean Autonomist Party (PATT) had refused to do so. After come Sergio Divina (former member of the Italian Liberal Party), Sergio Muraro, Erminio Boso (former member of Integral Autonomy and the PATT) and Alessandro Savoi.

In the 1996 general election the party obtained its best share ever: 20.8%.

In the 2008 provincial election Sergio Divina was candidate for president, supported by an autonomist coalition comprising also The People of Freedom (PdL), but was defeated by incumbent Lorenzo Dellai by a landslide. LNT won 18.4% of the vote (combined result of party list, 14.1%, and Divina's personal list, 4.3%), passing the PdL (12.3%) in the Province and getting eight deputies elected, six from party list and two from Divina's list.

In the 2013 general election the party won a mere 7.3% of the vote and lost its representation in the Chamber of Deputies. Divina was defeated in the Senate single-seat constituency of Pergine Valsugana to a Democrat, but was re-elected to the Senate as best loser of the coalition. In the 2013 provincial election the party's candidate, Maurizio Fugatti, won 6.6% and the party 6.2%.

Contrarily to other regional sections of Lega Nord, the party scores better in general elections than in provincial elections, in which it suffers more competition by other regionalist parties, such as the Trentino Tyrolean Autonomist Party.

The electoral results of Lega Nord Trentino in the province of Trentino are shown in the table below.
