  • Facilities

The Learey building houses classes and the administrative offices. This is a two-story building, which measures 125 feet (38 m) by 100 feet (30 m). The entrance area, on the northeast corner, is designed to be an octagon. Learey only has about twelve parking spaces, so most students must park on nearby streets or in the Erwin Technical Center lots. Learey conducts some classes at Tampa's MacDill Air Force Base's New Education Center.

    Programs

Learey maintains a number of apprenticeship programs, mainly for carpenters, child care workers, diesel technicians, ironworkers, insulation installers, millwrights, pipe trades & air conditioning specialists, sheet metal specialists and trowel trade (concrete) specialists. A number of short classes for a variety of workers in health occupations, industrial occupations, public service jobs, firefighters and business occupations are taught. Also, a variety of continuing education courses for many fields are taught at Learey. At least seventy individual training and continuing education courses are taught at or through Learey.

At the New Education Center, at MacDill, classes are taught by Learey for active duty military personnel and United States Department of Defense civilian employees.

    Accreditation

All vocational courses at Learey are approved by the Florida Board of Education. Also, apprenticeship programs are run jointly with industry organizations. Individual programs must meet the approval of these organizations. As of March 2013 the following organizations approve individual programs:

  • Florida East Coast Carpenters J.A.T.C.
  • Bay Area Diesel Technicians Association
  • Tampa Electrical J.A.T.C.
  • Ironworkers J.A.C.
