Early life

Jones was raised by his mother, Tameria and father, Lawrence Jones II. Growing up, he served as a youth minister, and in 2009, youth mayor of the city. He graduated from Garland High School in Garland, Texas in 2012. He later attended the University of North Texas, where he pursued a double major in political science and criminal justice.

Career

Jones was hired as student advocate in the Garland Independent School District, becoming their youngest employee. When he was 19, he ran for a seat on the school board for this district, but lost the election.

In 2013, Texas included Jones as one of the "rising stars" on a Top Ten under 30 list. He was also named Activist of the Year by FreedomWorks. That year he was asked by Project Veritas, a conservative non-profit organization founded by James O'Keefe, to work undercover to expose fraud among vendors who enrolled individuals in the healthcare marketplace of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.

In April 2015, Jones created a fundraiser for Memories Pizza, a pizza shop in Indiana that closed after receiving backlash when its owners said they would refuse to cater a gay wedding if asked. The fundraiser raised $844,000 for the family, and which was used in part for bills and partly donated to charity and the owner's church.

In November 2015, Jones began a trip across Texas to discuss criminal justice reform as a part of Empower Texans' Restore Justice project.

Jones is the District 2 representative on the Garland Parks and Recreation Board, which provides input to the Garland City Council and writes policies for the parks and recreation systems. Previously, he served for two years as a board member for Dallas County Child Welfare.

Jones is a contributor to conservative television show "Dana," hosted by Dana Loesch. The show airs on TheBlaze TV.

Jones interviewed the parents of the shooter involved in the 2016 shooting of Dallas police officers.
