2012: First WTA title
Ranked 174 in the world, Arruabarrena won her first WTA title at the Copa Claro Colsanitas in Bogotá, beating Alexandra Panova in the final. She then qualified for the main draw of the 2012 French Open, but lost in the first round to former champion Ana Ivanovic in straight sets.
Following wins over Julia Boserup, Çağla Büyükakçay and Alexa Glatch, Lara was the 11th qualifier for the 2012 US Open. Lara defeated Israel's Shahar Pe'er in the first round of the tournament, but couldn't make it past Jelena Janković in the second round.
