History and Overview
The firm was founded in 2000 in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. The objective of the organization is assisting national and multinational organizations to operate efficiently without language barriers. It opened its first international operation in 2008 in Portugal to service its European Union clientele. They were one of the first translation services companies to be certified as per EN 15038 Translation Service (which was replaced in 2015 by ISO 17100), as well as CGSB131.10 2008 Certification set out by the Canadian Standards Board.
Awards and recognition
Language Marketplace was featured on January 28, 2004 in a published article in one of Toronto's largest newspapers, Toronto Sun. The company was consulted as experts within the Canadian conference interpretation industry. The article titled Lost in Translation? Not for these Professionals.
In 2010, Language Marketplace was featured on the Rogers TV show In Business. The interview with its founder, Ema Dantas, reviewed the company's inception, growth, and logistics involved in processing translation services.
In 2012, Language Marketplace, under the helm of Ema Dantas, was recognized in the Chatelaine W100. This award goes to Canada's Top 100 Female Entrepreneurs. In 2015, Language Marketplace and its founder, Ema Dantas, was awarded the WBE Canada President’s Award for contributions made in assisting woman in the government procurement process. WBE Canada is supported by the Status of Woman Canada.
Community

• The W3C Internationalization (I18n) Activity works with W3C working groups and liaises with other organizations to make it possible to use Web technologies with different languages. Languages include Spanish, French, and Portuguese.
• WebAIM Center for Persons with Disabilities. They provide information, training, resources, guidelines and standards for Web accessibility and disability access to the Web. Language Marketplace contributes French translation and Spanish translation to a wide array of articles.
