Laimas muzykanti

The ethno rock band „Laimas Muzykanti” was founded in 1995 in Daugavpils. It was founded and is still led by musician, folklorist, poet, arranger and multi-instrumentalist, social worker and culture activist Artūrs Uškāns. Originally, the group was founded to perform accompanying music for the Student Dance Ensemble “Laima” of Daugavpils University. It has since taken on a life of its own.

Contents

The original sound of „Laimas Muzykanti” is characterized by the adaptation of authentic folk music, using traditional folk music instruments and authentic folk singing based on narrator chants and the playing styles of traditional musicians collected through folkloric research. Over a period of time the band's musicians have experimented with a variety of sounds, instruments and unusual musical combinations, for example, combining folkloric music with opera, electronic music or various ethnographic ensembles. In its performances, Laimas Muzykanti includes elements of music from different countries in cooperation with performers from the United Kingdom, Lithuania, Belarus and other countries. Of course, „Laimas Muzykanti” popularizes the traditions of Latgalian music as well.

"Laimas Muzykanti" has performed with many artists and performers well known in Latvia: group „Iļģi”, Olga Rajecka, Lauris Reiniks, the group „Elpa”, Leila AIijeva, group „Vilki” and still others.
