History

The municipality of Kvam was established on 1 January 1909 when it was separated from the large Stod formannskapsdistrikt to become a municipality of its own. Initially, Kvam had a population of 1,169. On 1 January 1964, a major municipal merger took place: the municipalities of Kvam, Beitstad, Egge, Ogndal, Sparbu, and Stod merged with the town of Steinkjer to form the new municipality of Steinkjer. Prior to the merger, Kvam had a population of 1,245.
