Kunnamangalam is a growing census town located about 14.5 km east of Kozhikode (Calicut) city on the Calicut-Bangalore National Highway. Nearby places are Koduvally, Chathamangalam, and Kettangal. The locality is home of education. Indias premier management institutes like, Indian Institute of Management, Kozhikode (IIMK),The NITC, Indian Institute of Spices Research, Kozhikode, Centre for Water Resources Development and Management (CWRDM) and Kerala School of Mathematics, Kozhikode are located here. Other major institutions are JDT Islam Orphanage Trust, Markazu SSaqafathi Sunniya(Markaz), Dayapuram Educational and Cultural Centre, Spring Valley School, Auxilium Navajyoti Higher Secondary School and MES Raja Residential School etc.

Kunnamangalam can be considered as the educational hub of Kerala. In other words Kunnamangalam is the only place in the country with major institutions. Institutes of India like Indian Institute of Management, Indian Institute of Spices Research, National institute of Technology, Indian Theosophical society, Govt. Medical college and numerous other institutes are located here, while Indias first water resources museum is situated at Peringalam.
Kerala Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation (KCMMF) or Milma is also located on Kunnamangalam. Centre for Water Resources Development and Management (CWRDM) is another important organization housing in Kunnamangalam.
Kunnamangalam is developing as a the suburb of Kozhikode, it will be merged to calicut corporation in the near future.
