Venkatesh Kumar. G (Tamil: வெங்கடேஷ் குமார் .ஜி;born 25 June 1981) is an Indian Film director and screenwriter working in Tamil cinema. He rose to fame with his Short Film "White Dirt" that won awards in International Film Festivals.He is known for his short films that are created on social awareness and now he made his debut in Tamil film industry with his film Neelam, which is based on a fisherman's life.His work "Moths" won the "Best Documentary" award in Indo-Russian Film Festival New Delhi 2013. *[1]**[2]*. He represented India in an 8-member Delegation team that were invited to Russia by ROSSOTRUDINCHESTVO-Federal Agency for Commonwealth of Independent States, Compatriots Living Abroad and International Humanitarian Cooperation. His Documentary "Kannadi Bommaigal"-Children of Light won the Best Documentary Award at the 6th Norway Tamil Film Festival 2015. In 2016 he Produced and Directed a Tamil Feature Film "Unakkul Naan" which was premiered at Norway and was released worldwide in April 2016. In 2017 he has come up with his 2nd Feature Film "Lightman" which turned out to be a massive success among the public and working class people. His Upcoming Films "The Beautiful Eye" and "Neelam" are set to hit the Screens Soon.

Background

Venkatesh Kumar.G was born on 25 June 1981 in Cuddalore, Tamil Nadu, he later moved to Chennai and graduated from SRM College of Physiotherapy. While struggling as a director, he worked in many call centres, and simultaneously made his short films. Though he is a physio, his passion was in film making and he hardly practised his profession and got into film making and has directed 10 short films and 4 Documentaries and 2 Feature Films so far, and many have been Nominated and Awarded in Indian and International Film Festivals.He is the winner of 2 Indo-Russian Awards. He made his debut into Tamil film industry with Unakkul Naan In 2016 the Film "Unakkul Naan" was premiered at Norway and was released worldwide in April 2016 and received mixed reviews and critics for the film. The film as widely appreciated by Art lovers as Indian Express stated the film as "Reel Lessons" and The Hindu called it " World of a Kid". The Film was aired in Doordarshan on November 14th 2016 as Children's Day Special.His 2nd film Lightman gained huge response among the public as it paved way for a revolution in Film Industry. The Downtrodden "Lightmen" were highlighted through this film and in fact the truth is many suffering "Lightmen" received their dues and settlement after this Film Lightman. His Upcoming Film The Beautiful Eye a movie exploring the Special Skills and Darker life of the Visually Impaired is expected to hit the Screens Soon in 2017.

He recently announced that he will be Officially Adopting the Great Tamil Novel "Oru Manithan Oru Veedu Oru Ulagam" by Veteran Award Winning WriterJayakanthan into a Feature Film.

He runs a film club named "Indo-Russian Cinemas" which helps aspiring short filmmakers to screen their works to the public at free of cost. This club was started by him in 2015 to support new talents in film industry.
