Krista McCarville

Junior career

McCarville skipped the Northern Ontario team in three Canadian Junior Curling Championships (2000, 2001, 2002). In 2003, she, and her team from Lakehead University represented Canada at the Winter Universiade in Tarvisio, Italy. The team won the silver medal, losing to Olga Jarkova's team from Russia in the final.

Women's career (2005-2013)

In 2005, she played third for Northern Ontario at the Canadian Mixed Curling Championships for Joe Scharf. They finished out of the playoffs. In 2006, McCarville won the Ontario Scott Tournament of Hearts (before 2015 there was no separate Northern Ontario division at the Scotts), and the right to represent team Ontario at the 2006 Scott Tournament of Hearts. At the 2006 Hearts, her team finished 4-7. McCarville won the Ontario Tournament of Hearts again in 2007, and improved on her previous record at the 2007 Scotties Tournament of Hearts. She finished the round robin with a 6-5 record and lost the tie breaker to Team Alberta, skipped by Cheryl Bernard.

In 2009, she once again won the right to represent Ontario at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts in Victoria, British Columbia, for the third time in 4 years, where she again finished 6-5, missing the playoffs.

In 2010 Krista and her team won the second qualifying spot at the Road to the Roar in Prince George, British Columbia, Earning them one of 8 spots in Edmonton, Alberta for the "Roar of the Rings", the 2009 Canadian Olympic Curling Trials. Team McCarville did well, finishing in a tie for 3rd. The team had to play in the first tie-breaker against Team Lawton of Saskatoon. After beating Team Lawton, they moved on to the 2nd tie-breaker with against Team Holland of Kronau, Saskatchewan. After beating Team Holland in the second game of the day, Team McCarville had to play their third game of the day, the semi-finals against Shannon Kleibrink from Calgary. Losing to Team Kliebrink ended the cinderella run at the Olympic Trials. A month after the Olympic Trials the Ontario Scotties Tournament of Hearts took place at home for Team McCarville, in Thunder Bay. After going undefeated in the round robin, Team McCarville had an automatic bye into the provincial final. Team McCarville beat team Horgan of Sudbury and finished the entire tournament undefeated. It was the first time in provincial history that a team went undefeated. With the win, she claimed her 4th trip to the Scotties Tournament of Hearts in 5 years. At the 2010 Scotties Tournament of Hearts in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Team Ontario, skipped by Krista McCarville finished the round robin in a tie for 4th place, gaining them a tie-breaker against Team Manitoba, skipped by Jill Thurston. After beating Team Manitoba, their next opponent was Team BC, skipped by Kelly Scott in the 3 v 4 page playoff game. After beating Team BC, Team Ontario moved into the semi-finals against Team PEI, skipped by Kathy O'Rourke which they lost 10-6.

On February 13, 2013, she announced she was taking a year or more off from the game to spend time with her two young children and concentrate on her teaching career.

Women's career (2015-present)

McCarville returned to competitive curling for the 2015–16 curling season, winning her first four events on the World Curling Tour.

McCarville highlighted her return to curling by winning the 2016 Northern Ontario Scotties Tournament of Hearts held at the McIntyre Curling Club in Timmins from Jan. 20-24, 2016. McCarville beat defending champion Tracy Fleury twice in the round-robin, then scored three in the seventh end of the finals to down Team Fleury 8-4. McCarville finished undefeated in nine matches at the event. With the title, the McCarville rink earned its right to compete in the 2016 Scotties Tournament of Hearts in Grand Prairie, Alberta, McCarville's fifth trip to the national tournament, but first as representative of Northern Ontario (only Ontario as a whole was represented at the Scotties prior to the inaugural 2015 Northern Ontario Scotties Tournament of Hearts). McCarville and her team of vice-skip Kendra Lilly, second Ashley Sippala, lead Sarah Potts, fifth Oye-Sem Won Briand and coach Lorraine Lang made it all the way to the final of the 2016 Hearts, only to lose to Alberta's Chelsea Carey, settling for a silver medal.

Personal life

McCarville is employed as a teacher at Holy Family School. She married her 2005 Canadian Mixed Championships team mate Michael McCarville on August 25, 2007 at St. Agnes Roman Catholic Church in Thunder Bay. They have two children.
