Vassiljev has been named Estonian Footballer of the Year three times, in 2010, 2011, 2013, and has won the Estonian Silverball award a record five times, in 2009, 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2016.

Early career

Vassiljev started playing football with TJK. He made his league debut in 2001 with Esiliiga side HÜJK Emmaste.
Levadia

In 2003, he signed for Meistriliiga side Levadia. He won the league in the 2004 and the 2006 seasons. In 2007, he was sent to Levadia's reserve team after refusing to sign a contract extension with the club.
Nafta Lendava

In February 2008, he signed a one-year contract with Slovenian PrvaLiga club Nafta Lendava. He made his debut in the PrvaLiga on 2 March 2008, in a 2–0 defeat against Celje. He scored his first PrvaLiga goal on 16 March 2008, in the 17th minute in a 1–2 defeat against Drava Ptuj.
Luka Koper

In February 2011, he signed a two-and-a-half-year contract with PrvaLiga side Koper. He scored his first goal for Koper on 3 April 2011, in a 3–0 win against Maribor.
Amkar Perm
In August 2011, he signed a three-year contract with Russian Premier League club Amkar Perm.
Piast Gliwice
On 26 August 2014, he joined Ekstraklasa club Piast Gliwice on a one-year contract.
Jagiellonia Białystok
In June 2015, Vassiljev joined Ekstraklasa side Jagiellonia Białystok on a two-year contract.
Return to Piast Gliwice
On 3 July 2017, Vassiljev signed a three-year contract with his former team Piast Gliwice.
International career
Vassiljev made his debut for the Estonia national football team on 31 May 2006 against New Zealand in a friendly match. He scored his first international goal against Armenia on 28 March 2009. He has won the Estonian Silverball award for the best goal scored for the national team in 2009, 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2016.
