It is considered a notable fact coming from the company, which is known in the K-Pop industry for limiting the creative freedom and involvement of its artists production of their own albums. Kim Da-hee of the Korea Times named Jonghyun as one of the four K-pop musicians, who have distinguished themselves from the mass-produced singers in the idol industry, the other three are G-Dragon, Zico and Jinyoung. The author of the article praise the four artists for their "exceptional talent in songwriting, producing and dancing, plus other abilities that make them successful musicians". He is considered to be a representative idol singer-songwriter, who expresses a color in his music that is of his own and he got praise for consistently writing and composing the majority of his solo tracks. Insight Korea mentions him as one of the seven idol group members that are regarded as having a level of musicality so high that one may as they were "born to music".

Personal life

In April, 2013, Jonghyun was involved in a car accident, causing him to injure his nasal bone. It was reported by his agency that he had received surgery on the injury.
