Organization

KIDFIT LLC's headquarters is in Washington, D.C., where its three executive board members reside. Jamal Williams is the founder and CEO of the organization with a background in physical therapy and art/design. Ammanuel Girma and Caleb Boise are the CFO and marketing director, respectively.

Mission

KIDFIT LLC hopes to provide preventative healthcare through practical software applications. Their main focus is fighting childhood obesity with fitness and nutritional advice. Using modern mobile technology, the organization wants the public to become more knowledgeable on ways to combat health issues concerning children.

History

While Williams was living in DC, he realized the plight of children concerning obesity, and claimed in an interview that “...if one of every three kids is obese, and they have P.E. [physical education], then something is not working. I wanted to figure out innovative ways to bring fitness to kids.”

To become a proponent in the fight against childhood obesity, he created KIDFIT LLC on May 24, 2010. Recognizing the lack of child fitness applications in the iTunes Store, he set out to design a mobile app to encourage healthy living for kids.

KIDFIT

KIDFIT is a mobile app that incorporates over 150 exercises and a guide to good nutrition, exclusively available on iTunes. It is constructed specifically for children, including an integrated network that promotes healthy living, monitors fitness levels, and provides a total body workout. Emphasizing strength training, flexibility, coordination, and conditioning, the app features parental controls, a fitness logging system, no weights, and sports-specific workouts for over ten sports.

Since the software is in its early stages, doctors and fitness professionals, along with professors from Howard University, will continue to test the effectiveness of the app for the next three to five years.
