Personal life
Khurshid Alam was born in sargodha district in 1956. His early education took place in the city of Sargodha. Thereafter he studied under the late Hafiz Muhammad yousaf sadidi who was one of the great master of calligraphy of Indian subcontinent. The title of Gohar qalam was bestowed on him by late Nafees raqam,another master of calligraphy and by professor Ghulam nizzamuddin university of Punjab.
Some major works
Gohar Qalam is only Pakistani whose work is permanent display in British museum London,Ashmolean museum oxford. His major work include a copy of holy Quran placed in the main state mosque known as a Faisal mosque in Islamabad and include 406 style of calligraphy. The entire manuscript weighing 1600 kilogram is divided into 30 parts and place in separate showcase.His calligraphy adorns some of the most important public place in the Islamic republic of Pakistan such as the extension of the mosque and tomb complex of the premier saint of south Asia who is buried in Lahore and known as the Data Ganj Baksh shrine.His work is adorn inside the dome of Hazrat Ghous-e-azam Baghdad.His calligraphic work also displayed in eastern art gallery in Mosco museum Russia.The government of Pakistan have presented his work as a state gift to visiting head of state.His calligraphic work is very popular in all over the world.
