After the partition of India in 1947, all of the Kheras left what is now Pakistan and settled in India.

The surname Khera (Punjabi: ਖੇੜਾ(with sound ੜṛaṛa) should not to be confused with Khehra/Khaira/Khara (Punjabi: ਖੈਰਾ /ਖਹਿਰਾ/ਖਰ੍ਹਾ(with sound ਰrara)(ਖਰ੍ਹਾ With half ਹhaha in the feet of ਰ)). Khaira a surname from the jatt community should not be confused with Kheras.
