History
The Kharwar community exists in the Indian states of Jharkhand, West Bengal, Odisha, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Delhi, Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. In Jharkhand they are distributed in the hilly and forest regions as well as the plains of Ranchi, Gumla. Lohardaga, Palamau and Hazaribagh districts.
The Kharwar have six endogamous groups which are Surajbansi, Daulat bandi, Paraband, Kharia Bhogti and Mauijhia. They often use Singh. Mandal and Kharwar as surnames.
Occupation
They usually regard landholding as their traditional occupation; some are zamindars, many of them have been involved in agriculture.
