The Vishweshwaraiah flyover starts at the circle and leads to Hussain sagar lake.

The area is named after a Khairunnissa whose tomb is located next to the Khairtabad Mosque though the access is to the backside of the monument. (Speculation) This tomb could be of Khair-un-Nissa, the wife of Captain James Achilles Kirkpatrick mentioned in the 2002 book White Mughals by William Dalrymple, though the book doesn't mention any such tomb. You can also see 300 years old Reddy's house(Surname:Maramaganti) PATEL BUILDING.

The Idol and the Ganesh Chathurthi

The largest Lord Ganesh Idol in the world is installed near Khairtabad State Library during Ganesh chaturthi festival and is immersed at Hussain Sagar Lake.

The local people participate in the 11-day festival and thousands of people from throughout India, visit the Idol to seek blessings of Lord Ganesh. On the 11th day, a big procession takes place and the idol is carried to the Hussain Sagar Lake. After immersing the idol, the festival ends.

The local people formed a committee, 'Ganesh Utsav Committee, Khairtabad', to maintain the proceedings during the festival days. The Singari family is dedicated in conducting of the Lord Ganesh festival since 1954. Many poor families survive by selling many products to the visitors.

Three months prior to the festival day, Ganesh Chathurthi, the construction of the idol begins. Nearly 200 workers led by an sculpturist works day and night for three months to construct the biggest idol, nearly 58 feet height.
