The town is said to have been founded by Khaira, a Hindu of Pasi caste, in early 11th century. It was subsequently taken in possession by a Kayasth family. In after years, many rent-free grants of portions of its site were made to Muslims who came in great numbers during the reigns of Babar and Akbar, but these grants were all resumed by the Nawab of Oudh in early 1800s. Before the above mentioned Khaira Pasi's time the place was known as Masichait (Masi chitra), and was a place of pilgrimage so far back as the reign of the great Bikramajit. • History Of Khairabad Imambada

MAKKA was a daroga at the court of Wajid Ali shah, by caste he was a darzi (tailor). Once he stitched a very fine sherwani for Nawab Wajid Ali Shah, something which no other tailor could do earlier. The Nawab was so happy to see the work that he asked Makka to ask for what he desired. The daroga urged Wahid Ali shah to construct a monument to remember the Prophet and his Progeny. That is how Qadam Rasool and the Imambara at Khairabada came into existence.

Today both Qadam Rasool and the Imambara are totally neglected. Qadam Rasool is in a state of dilapidation. There is no government body to care of its preservation and safeguard its valuable heritage. Some local bodies have undertaken the task but are struggling to meet the costs involved in the maintenance.
