Previously, Ellman was a professional drummer and performed with musicians including, Bette Midler, The Manhattan Transfer, Barry Manilow, Mary Travers of Peter, Paul & Mary, Chuck Berry, Todd Rundgren, Felix Cavaliere, Laura Branigan and Gene Cornish of the Young Rascals.

As a teenager, Ellman took drum lessons with Jim Chapin.
Ellman attended Berklee College of Music and toured with the music group Manhattan Transfer. Later, he became the drummer for Bette Midler, Barry Manilow and Moogy Klingman. Additionally, Ellman was selected as the drummer for Utopia.
Career
In 1975, Ellman ended his musical career and joined his father’s family business, Beefsteak Charlie's.
He returned to playing the drums with John Siegler and Don Sarlin in 2000. Ellman is a financial advisor and has appeared on CNBC and ABC.
