Brandow learned to play guitar, bass, drums and keyboards. He is also a singer.

Brandow was a member of Christian rock band Petra during the late 1990s.

Brandow joined Petra in 1997 as a keyboardist but he also played rhythm guitar in concerts pairing with lead guitarist Pete Orta. Brandow left the band in 1999 to pursue a solo career.
