Twinning Luxol St.Andrews

The relationship between Kercem Ajax F.C and Luxol St Andrews has been for several years but on Saturday, 10 December 2011 this friendship was sealed by the signing of a sports twinning agreement between both clubs. This agreement was signed by Mr Albert Camilleri obo Kercem Ajax and Mr Paul Falzon obo Luxol Sports Club This twinning ceremony was held at the Raymond Mercieca Sports Complex in Kercem which the Ministry for Gozo Onor Giovanna Debono, Parliamentary Secretary Dr Chris Said, The Major Mr Joe Grima, GFA President Mr Alvin Grech and members of both committees of both clubs attended. To commemorate this event several football tournaments involving both club's nurseries were held in several grounds in Gozo during Saturday and Sunday. This twinning agreement will help both clubs to strengthen their relationship and eventually both committees will work together in order to share ideas. Eventually the first benefit of this agreement is being realized in the coming months when coaches of both clubs will be involved in workshops and training programmes in Scotland.

Nursery

Nobody can deny the fact that since the early 70’s all boys who had the game of football at heart, had the opportunity to form part of teams formed by our Club’s administration where they had the opportunity to compete in competitive football organised for their respective age group. It was true that at that time the facilities weren’t as good as they are today. We all can notice the recent improvements and standards reached in the facilities we have at our sports complex. Although trophies have never been on our main agenda, the lavish amount of them, adorning our showcase shelves, spells our successful years of administration and organisation of Leagues and Tournaments were our younger teams successfully participated. Yet not withstanding all this, we seek our true success in the number of players who made it to the first team and most of all to character formation. These were and still are our aims when dealing with our Nursery.

It was only in the early 90’s when the ‘Gozo Football Association’ founded the ‘Gozo Youth Nursery’ that our nursery continued to flourish on the foundations that were laid many years before by our club. Presently one can boost that our Nursery is one of the few Clubs in Gozo that provides training programmes all year round for kids from the age of 4 years till the age of 16. The boys / girls are divided in different age groups and each group is taken care of by a qualified coach. These then are headed by a head coach who co-ordinates the training sessions and all related matters concerning the teams.

Throughout the season all our Nursery teams participate in a good number of tournaments / competitions organized by the ‘Gozo Youth Football Association’ and by other Maltese and local nurseries. On a larger scale, recently, our committee started organizing the “Raymond Mercieca Memorial Tournament”. In this tournament Maltese and Gozitan teams are invited to participate in a friendly and healthy atmosphere on our synthetic pitch. The Nursery Committee also organizes other social activities which help to create more understanding between the member players, parents, coaches and the committee members. Besides, these activities are also a source of income for the Nursery which has to budget large amounts of money to cater for the whole season. Here we must thank all the parents for their never-ending support and co-ordination with the coaches and staff. On a personal note, I can see the future of Kercem Ajax Football Club a very bright one.
