Kent J. Ingle

Early life and education

Ingle was born in Kansas City, Missouri, however because his father was a district manager for American Stores the family moved around the country; first to Illinois, then to Colorado before finally settling in California. Ingle considers California his home, because he views it as where his "life was really shaped and took on significance". Ingle received his bachelor of arts degree in broadcast journalism and his master's of theological studies from Vanguard University of Southern California in Costa Mesa, California. Ingle later earned a doctor of ministry degree from the Assemblies of God Theological Seminary in Springfield, Missouri.

Career

Ingle was ordained as an Assemblies of God minister in 1988. At the age of 18, Ingle started as a television sports anchor and spent 10 years as an anchor for NBC and CBS. He started his career in Bakersfield, California, and finished his career in Los Angeles, California. During his time as an anchor, he covered many professional sports teams and interviewed hundreds of notable people in the professional sports world, including Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Pete Rose, Muhammad Ali and Carl Lewis.

Ingle spent 15 years in pastoral leadership of two congregations - one in Los Angeles and the other in Chicago. Before becoming Southeastern's president in 2011, Ingle served as the dean for the College of Ministry at Northwest University in Kirkland, Washington.

Under his leadership, the university has made tremendous strides. In the fall of 2015, Southeastern University brought in its largest freshman cohort in school history. In addition, in the fall of 2015, the university witnessed the largest enrollment since its founding in 1935. The university has grown from 2,546 students in 2011 to more than 5,800 students currently, with 17 extension sites and two regional sites.

During Ingle’s tenure, SEU has seen significant change. SEU has successfully implemented a shared governance model, added dozens of new academic and athletic programs and dramatically increased its enrollment. In the fall of 2014, SEU launched the first season of Fire football in its newly completed state-of-the-art football stadium. In addition, construction was completed on the new College of Natural & Health Sciences Building.

Under Ingle’s leadership, the Southeastern University board of trustees unanimously approved phase two of the master plan in November 2014. This initiative will include a new state-of-the-art, 44,000-square-foot Administration and Operations Building; a 120,000-square-foot Live/Learn Facility; and an eight-lane NCAA track and field facility. Phase two is expected to be completed in 2017.

Ingle has published three books entitled, This Adventure Called Life: Discovering Your Divine Design, 9 Disciplines of Enduring Leadership and Framework Leadership: Position Yourself for Transformational Change.

This Adventure Called Life: Discovering Your Divine Design unpacks the steps of the creative process that God has divinely designed into the journey of life. Ingle expounds on God’s ongoing handiwork in each individual to develop and refine the strengths and gifts of each person’s divine design.

9 Disciplines of Enduring Leadership is the motivating follow-up to This Adventure Called Life. It encourages readers to make their life count in the ways that really matter by uncovering the value of a disciplined life. The book provides nine essential principles for developing a life-purpose, and to learn how to walk with clarity and confidence through life’s challenges and triumphs. The nine disciplines are: self-awareness, self-management, self-preparedness, character, relationships, generosity, learning, opportunity, and mission.

In Framework Leadership: Position Yourself for Transformational Change, Ingle creates a framework of suggestions that provide clarity, direction, and purpose to transform your vision into reality. He will teach you how to develop an awareness of your driving passion, the discipline to see divine opportunities, and the courage to act.
