Kenny de Meirleir is best known for his work on chronic fatigue syndrome also known as myalgic encephalomyelitis (or ME or ME/CFS), including the book Chronic Fatigue Syndrome: A Biological Approach (2002) which he co-edited with Patrick Englebienne. He treats ME-patients at his clinic in Belgium, Himmunitas (where he claims that complaints are due to Lyme-disease and is known for his controversial long-term antibiotic treatments that can last up to years) and at the Center for Translational Medicine in Reno, Nevada.

Education and career

Dr. De Meirleir earned his medical degree from the Vrije Universiteit Brussel in 1977, and completed an internal medicine residency in the Department of Internal Medicine, University Hospital of Vrije Universiteit Brussel.

Dr. De Meirleir has extensive experience treating patients with myalgic encephalomyelitis (ME) and other chronic diseases. His goal is to reduce the severity of illness through appropriate dietary changes, immune support, and specific drug treatments for chronic infectious pathogens.

Kenny de Meirleir is among the authors of over 92 published scientific articles, most of them related to CFS/ME.

Awards

De Meirleir received the Solvay Prize in 1980 and a NATO research award for work in exercise physiology and metabolism in exercise.
