Kegalu Vidyalaya ("කෑගලු විද්‍යාලය") is a leading Boys' school in Kegalle District, Sabaragamuwa Province, Sri Lanka established on 14 February 1942. Being a National School and controlled by the Central government, Currently the school accommodates nearly 3500 students and an academic and non-academic staff of around 200.

Inauguration Ceremony

In 1942 February 14 at 3.00 PM Kegalu Vidyalaya was made open with Don Baron Jayatilaka and Mr. Gunapala Malalasekara, P. De S. Kularathne, E.W. Adhikaram, H.W. Amarasooriya and Rev.Naradha Thero gracing the event.
Initially Kegalu Vidyalaya was started as an English medium Buddhist mixed school. Later on with the government regulations over the national schools, the medium was altered to Sinhalese medium and the composition was changed from mixed to Boys.

Currently Kegalu Vidyalaya offers education in both Sinhalese and English medium.

Houses

The students are divided into four Houses:

  •      – Dharmapala
  •      – Gunananda
  •      – Jayathilaka
  •      – Olcott
  • The house names are derived from national heroes of Sri Lanka . The houses compete annually in major games/sports to win the annual inter-house games.
